Tips for living a healthy, vibrant life from one cool cat lady

Half Way Done!

Sorry I’ve been quiet for the past few weeks, there have been good days and not so good days. The good news is that I’m half way done with chemo and, according to my doctors and nurses, I’m finished with the worst drug, cytoxan. Now just four more treatments of taxol and I’m done!

I start the Taxol today and I’m a little trepidatious because the side effects are different with this drug. Now that I have a handle on what to expect with the first drug combo they go and change things on me! I should have less nausea and the mouth sores should go away, but now I have to be on the lookout for peripheral neuropathy and more aches and pains.

I’m taking high doses of alpha lipoid acid, which is the best tool we have to combat the neuropathy, plus I have these frozen gloves and socks to wear during treatment. The idea is to slow down circulation to the hands and feet, reducing the amount of the drug going to these areas and hopefully avoiding or minimizing any potential nerve damage.

They are about to give me a big shot of Benadryl to counteract any potential reaction I might have to the taxol, so I wanted to get this post done before I pass out. I’ll report back later!
